CHARACTER NAME: Orga Itsuka
CANON & HISTORY: Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans (Sorry to include a write-up, but his Wiki page is awful.)
Orga grew up as an orphan on the streets of Chryse, a city located on Mars. The planet is viewed as a frontier colony of the Outer Sphere whose resources were all but used up—despite this, the four economic blocs of the Earth Sphere rely heavily on what little the planet has left to offer. This, combined with very inequitable trade deals set in place, have caused poverty and hardship to spread throughout the colony. One symptom of this growing conflict is the steadily increasing number of orphans on the planet, a group to which Orga was a part of. In a still-obfuscated series of events, he teams up with Mikazuki Augus, another Martian orphan, and after a situation where Orga is badly wounded on his left upper arm and Mika shoots and kills his assailant, he promises to take them both, “Somewhere not here. To the place where we truly belong.”

In order to be able to support themselves and reach this goal, they both joined a paramilitary organization known as the CGS (Chryse Guard Security) at a very young age. In exchange for a bunk, rations, and pay, they had to undergo a very painful and dangerous surgery to get an Alaya-Vijnana system implanted so that they could pilot the necessary weaponry without typical training. Many years later, when Orga is approximately seventeen years old, the CGS is on the cusp of taking on an escort job to take Kudelia Aina Bernstein, a daughter of a politician and the figurehead of the Mars independence movement, to Earth to further her cause. She is sold out by her father to Gjallarhorn, an intergalactic peacekeeping force, which attacks the CGS base, seeking to make her a martyr for their own gain. Though they repel Gjallarhorn forces, their new tenuous situation with their employers gives Orga reason to lead the remaining Third Group—consisting of other kids from similar backgrounds—into staging a coup. It is successful, and they take control of the CGS, renaming it Tekkadan and taking on the job to escort Kudelia to Earth, both to stay in business but also to preserve their honor as a company.

In order to both secure a path to Earth and safeguard themselves from the pursuing Gjallarhorn, Orga leads Tekkadan to seek out Teiwaz, a company known to be little more than a mafia in reality, to become a subsidiary of theirs. He gains audience after impressing Naze Turbine, a member of Teiwaz, and this partnership—though it is more of a brotherhood—is formed. Their subsequent path to Earth is fraught with many dangers, including assaults by marauding pirates, an agreed-upon delivery given to them by Teiwaz suddenly escalating into a worker revolt, and the waiting blockade of Gjallarhorn's Outer Earth Orbit Regulatory Joint Fleet set on preventing them from entering Earth's atmosphere. Each of these increasingly daunting obstacles are overcome with the quick-thinking ingenuity and brutal follow-through which become characteristic of Tekkadan as word of this small group of child soldiers escorting this revolutionary figure to Earth despite hounding opposition begins to spread throughout the Spheres.

Once upon Earth, they find that their mission is not yet over. In order to give Kudelia the platform necessary to enact change, they must escort her and Togonosuke Makanai, her political supporter, to the city of Edmonton in Arbrau, one of the major economic blocs of Earth, so that Makanai could be elected prime minister. Orga agrees for Tekkadan to act as their escort, despite the looming threat of losses which ends up realized as Gjallarhorn opposes them at every step of the way. In a final dangerous gambit, they push through the entrenched forces and deliver Makanai to the Parliamentary Building in time for him to be elected, though they suffer heavy casualties. Their mission is a success, and preliminary measures are put into place to alleviate the suffering of those living under colonial rule. Tekkadan gains renown for how they overcame Gjallarhorn's interference and are elevated to act as military advisers for Arbrau. With that, Orga—and Tekkadan—set their sights on returning to Mars, the place that, for them, feels closest to home.

In the time since their unexpected victory, much has changed in the solar system. While Mars works towards independence, Gjallarhorn's defeat has caused piracy and lawlessness to rise, and the success of a group of child soldiers caused a sharp increase in Human Debris (children sold into wartime slavery). Tekkadan continues to take jobs and field sharp interest in their outfit, including one circumstance in which they defended Kudelia once again from a large group of pirates known as the Dawn Horizon Corps, temporarily allying with McGillis' Outer Earth Orbit Regulatory Joint Fleet but running afoul of Rustal's Arianrhod Fleet. After a rogue element in their operations on Earth cause them to lose more numbers in a prolonged conflict which Orga was kept blind to, he decides to agree to a further alliance with McGillis—one in which he agrees to help him take control of Gjallarhorn in return for Tekkadan's dominion over Mars.
AGE: 19
CANON POINT: Post-episode 33
PERSONALITY: Much of who a person is can result directly from the circumstances in which they were raised, and Mars is a uniquely harsh crucible. Orga Itsuka, whose early existence as an orphan in the Martian streets was symptomatic of the political and economic problems of the colony itself, learned very early on that, being born to nothing and with nothing, if there were any gains for him to make, he would have to make them however he could. The method he found was his willingness to sell himself to be a child recruit of a paramilitary organization. In turn this required him to cede what many viewed as his humanity, as the Alaja-Vijnana surgery contingent upon joining was a societal taboo. To Orga, these decisions are made without doubt because of how integral they are to survival—orphans on Mars, with little to no opportunity for education, would have to end up selling themselves in one way or another to live. Through this lens, to become something which many people reviled and commonly risk his life in exchange for a living was a simple enough decision.

All that Orga is is what he has made himself into over the years, and who he became was created for the purpose of fulfilling a promise to bring himself and his own to a place better than where they began. The calm authority he exudes as the de facto leader of the CGS’ Third Group—which would later form Tekkadan—was a direct result of his personal conviction to assume that responsibility. His perceptiveness was trained against the intentions those who sought to take advantage of himself and those he leads. Though Orga’s charisma is intrinsic to him, there is much about his persona as leader which is performative, enacted for the dual purpose of inspiring those who look to him for guidance and fulfilling his own stringent expectations for himself. Beneath this disciplined veneer, Orga’s confidence and control are not as complete as they appear—he is circuitously thoughtful, deeply compassionate for those he considers his own, concerned if his decisions are truly for the best for everyone, and almost shy in certain situations he’s unaccustomed to. Though this is an aspect of him, it is one rarely displayed, as Orga refuses to allow himself to show any sort of weakness.

Though Orga does much to embody the role of leader, he does not allow it to distance himself from those that he leads—he is purposefully approachable and personable, particularly once he grows attached to the idea of their crew being their family. Just as readily as he concocts plans and gives orders, he also visits the injured, checks in on troubled individuals, brings back candy for the younger kids, and takes their first earnings as their own company and blows part of it on a celebratory night out drinking (even if they had to carry him home afterward). To preserve this familial atmosphere within the crew is as important to Orga as any of their other goals.

Orga is characterized by his passion. It is an odd dichotomy to have, given how methodical and calculating he can be, but his primary response is almost always an emotional one. This sometimes can lead him astray, such as having an outraged outburst at a political meeting, but once the heat of the moment passes, his ability to rationally assess a situation returns. He never makes lasting or pivotal decisions due to emotional impulse, though occasionally he is swayed by the dispositions of others, such as when he was influenced to intervene in a particularly unfair assault against an uprising of downtrodden workers against his more cautious judgment. Both personal and professional honor are important to him and provide a framework for many of his decisions; the decision to escort Kudelia to Earth, rather than give her over to Gjallarhorn, was made so that Tekkadan would be a respectable company. On the same hand, however, instructing a brutal preemptive strike to clear away opposition for his goal was not seen as dishonorable, as that final goal is seen as just.

Orga was never allowed the opportunity to become an idealist. He is a marked realist with an impressive ability to perceive the entirety of a situation, assess it, and determine the best course of action by anticipating future ramifications. This natural foresight is something that he utilizes not only as a leader but as a strategist for their military exploits. Whether it was on Mars, struggling for continued survival, fending off much better-trained and better-equipped assailants in space, or facing entrenched opposition on Earth, Orga’s ability to think several steps ahead and form resourceful (though often reckless) plans of action is what keeps Tekkadan moving forward. Initially, this outlook limited Orga’s ambitions. He only sought to further Tekkadan in a way which would immediately benefit it, like the protection they gained after becoming a subsidiary of Teiwaz. This mindset changes gradually as he realizes that this still leaves them open to being used as pawns, first encouraging him to gain sway enough to be considered equals, then again to become formidable enough that they would never be taken advantage of again. This increase in scope consequentially opens them up to the higher possibility of casualties as they face more deadly opposition—despite this, Orga’s inability to turn back keeps them on this path, leading him to state, “If there’s a risk either way, it’s better to seek the bigger return.” It’s not to say that the threat of losing those that he cares about doesn’t affect him, however. It is not new for him to want to push ahead, though that increased danger is; that “[he] is shivering with fear as he moves ahead, too.” When faced with a decision where striving forward into a dangerous situation might offer greater gain than attempting to retreat into yet another uncertain situation, Orga will always choose to press on, stating, “You just deal with whatever's in front of you. If you don't, you can't move forward.”

“We have nowhere to return to, but we do have a destination. We’ll get there together.”

The true weight of responsibility—that his commands could result in the deaths of those that he cares about—is something that Orga has gradually come to terms with. Though comrades dying was never anything new, the personal responsibility over it was, and it carried with it a propensity towards doubting himself. It is impressed upon him that doubting his orders and thinking that he could have done more to prevent deaths did little more than disrespect those that had sacrificed themselves—he attaches to this idea, coalescing when he leads Tekkadan on their final, risky assault into Edmonton. Orga—and by extension, the rest of Tekkadan—perceive that they have been risking their lives from the day they were born. Be they the lives of those living or dead, “[each] one of our lives will be used for the future of the survivors.” So long as there is the chance of achieving something better for all of them, Orga is willing to bet their lives on that outcome. This exchange of trust is always mutual; just as Orga is willing to bet them, each member of Tekkadan is vocally willing to bet themselves on whatever plan he devises for their survival. So far, he has never failed them.

Though he has never refused to send someone into a dangerous situation, it does not mean that he is without regret. He once states in confidence that the risk for high casualties is something he “forces” upon them. Still, he refuses to disrespect any member of Tekkadan willing to risk themselves for the greater cause of the group. All of this is heavily dependent, however, on the goal he is seeking to accomplish. As soon as their mission in Edmonton was accomplished, Orga immediately went to contact all of Tekkadan to tell them to avoid dying at all costs and that, “Whoever dies from now on I’ll kill again for disobeying me.” Endangering lives is something he is only willing to risk when there is something for them all to gain. The one exclusion to this rule is Orga himself. Early on, he makes a statement of his devotion to Tekkadan by stating he would die for it, but he is reprimanded and told that his death would mean the death of Tekkadan itself. He does take this to heart and makes efforts to keep himself out of danger, making a good effort to delegate dangerous tasks to those capable and hungry to prove themselves—this both preserves him as an able leader and allows other members of Tekkadan to feel vital to their cause. This having been said, however, his self-restraint is not perfect. Orga does charge out into danger to watch the final battle in Edmonton even after their mission is complete, as he believes it’s also his duty as leader to make sure that his orders are carried out, regardless of danger.

By far the most important thing to Orga is the family that he has found and forged in Tekkadan. Though his joining the Third Group of the CGS might have been a decision made for self-preservation, the comradery that he both discovered and worked to further propagate among the children there was something that over time became vital to him. When speaking about this bond, he says that they are all “connected. The blood our dead comrades spilled and the blood we’ll be spilling have mixed and hardened like iron. So we can’t leave each other; we’re not allowed to, even if it’s dangerous or painful.” When informed that this didn’t didn’t sound like camaraderie, but family, everything shifted to a different axis for Orga. With that affirmation, he becomes fixated on this concept. After getting drunk on a celebratory night out, Orga is heard mumbling to himself that he was happy to make a family for them and create a place where people feel at home—concepts which many of them never had.

“Tekkadan is a house that we all build together. My pride does not matter.
Whatever happens from now on, we will not change. Each of us will think about Tekkadan—and protect it.”

The sole reason behind all of this—behind his decision to join the CGS at a young age, to strengthen his position as leader within the Third Group, to stage a coup and take over the company, to rename and renew it, and to lead it into their own forged future was all to fulfill a promise that he made to Mikazuki Augus when they were kids living on the streets. This promise, to take them to “the place that [they] truly belong,” is not only the outline by which he makes all of his decisions but also the armature upon which he constructed who he needed to become to accomplish it. In order to carve this place out, he became the cool and confident leader necessary, and he makes all of the decisions he believes he must in order to secure for them—and, by extension now, Tekkadan—a place which they belong. This impetus can take on a very different context, however, in the rare moment where Orga’s steadfast leadership faltered. After losing his long-time advisor and confidant Biscuit Griffin, Orga lapses into self-doubt, requiring Mika to forcibly remind him of his promise, stating that he could not stop and would not stop carving out their path until Orga said that they had found the place he promised. This persuasion (though more of an intimidation) snapped him out of his depressive spiral, fueling him to take up the mantle of boss once more. Orga makes every decision feeling Mika’s eyes burning into the back of his neck; he perceives him as monitoring each choice, always enabling him to make the bolder (and often more dangerous) decision to further Tekkadan’s progress towards the fulfillment of that promise. Just in the way that he knows Mika will follow through with whatever he tells him to do, Orga knows that he could never stray from that goal. To him, Mika is a counterpart, a confidant, his keenest weapon, but also his most grave responsibility. Before everything that he became, he took this kid off the streets and promised him something, and since that day Mika has dedicated everything to him, crafting himself into what he felt was necessary just as Orga had done the same. To him, there is no way he could betray Mika’s trust or expectations—no matter what it takes.

POWERS: None.
OTHER: As a child, Orga received the surgery to get a single Alaya-Vijnana spinal implant, which can connect to a requisite input on certain mobile suits and mobile workers to create a man-machine neural interface, facilitated by a pseudo-brain lobe created in the pilot's body via nanomachines. This not only increases the pilot's spatial awareness while connected to the machine, but also allows them to both process the weapon's data and control it intuitively and with much finer control through the physical link. Orga's own skill as a pilot, however, is never truly explored as he never pilots a mobile suit and only occasionally piloted mobile workers. Orga has received years of martial training with firearms and heavy weaponry like mobile workers (and he is, towards the end of the series, shown to be quite a good shot), though his true strength is in his ability as a military tactician, allowing him to repeatedly guide a much smaller team of young mercenaries to victory against larger, seasoned forces while also maintaining rapport and morale.

GAME INFO;

MAGIC ABILITY: Power reflection. Allows Orga to reflect any powers which are directly used against him physically or mentally away from himself and potentially back at the user, where they have the same effects reflected back at them.
LIMITATIONS: Because this power could be very powerful due to its versatility, there are many caveats and limitations to its use. First is that it only affects powers which try to directly affect him. An example would be: if a character with telekinesis tries to lift and throw Orga, he could reflect this effect, but if a nearby car was lifted and thrown at Orga, the power would not function. For less directed attacks, however, he would be able to intercept them. An example of this would be that a laser beam is shot at someone near Orga, and he would be able to step into the way and reflect it. The second specification is that the deftness of control of this power scales directly with Orga's understanding of the other person's power. If it's something he's completely confounded by, the reflection might go awry, but if he has great understanding of the power, he would be able to finely control its use in the reflection. This is to encourage analytic oversight of the power, which is compliant with his own strengths. The third is that, since it is a reactionary power, it cannot be used on its own; it is completely dependent upon another using a power against him and is otherwise dormant and useless.
PRICE: The cup signifying his Sakazuki blood oath to Teiwaz
ACCLIMATION: 7. Though the nature of this change of scenery is on a different magnitude than anything he's experienced, Orga has gone through several different changes in scope in his life, from a personal lens limited only to a very small part of Mars up to managing a military group influential to several planets and parts of space. The introduction of magic and other things he would've previously thought impossible will be a small stumbling block, but Orga's adaptability and tenacity will allow him to recover and continue forward with whatever new scenario presents itself to him.
